CSSWA HIRES EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Welcome from the new Executive Director of CSSWA

Hello,

It is my great honor to have accepted the Executive Director position with the Colorado School Social Work Association (CSSWA) for the upcoming school year. CSSWA is a great organization which exists to promote the visibility and viability of the school social work profession, and it promotes professional excellence among school social workers in an effort to enhance the well-being of students, family, and community within the educational system. I have been a school social worker in Colorado for the past 10 years working in Denver Public Schools, and I am currently the Interim Manager of the Department of Social Work and Psychological Services. Before moving to Colorado for graduate school in 2007, I completed my BSW at the University of Wyoming and worked as a family advocate in rural communities across the southern part of the state.

I know the value the school social work profession provides to Colorado students, families, and communities.  I am deeply committed to supporting networking for members, promoting professional excellence, developing growth opportunities for school social workers, and enhancing support for our Colorado families. I have a strong sense of rural practice as well as practice in urban settings. I am excited to bring my experience as a leader and a school social worker to my new role as Executive Director in service to all school social workers in Colorado.

School Social Workers have aligned, advocated and grown roots in Colorado over the past twenty years.  The former association of school social workers evolved into CSSWA, a non-profit board ten years ago.  As boards grow and change, so too has CSSWA evolved over the past ten years.  Last year CSSWA moved from a founding board structure to a governing board structure with the hiring of an executive director to help lead the board and organization into its next decade.

The goals of CSSWA are to continue to grow membership, to provide members the opportunity to network, and to promote support, resources, legislation and professional practices that impact school social workers in Colorado.  CSSWA offers professional development through an annual state conference and also impacts educational practices through representation at the state and national level. As CSSWA board transitions from a founding board to a governing board and is collaboratively working to enhance the benefits we provide to members across the state, we hope to hear your voice in what you need from your state organization.

I wish everyone a wonderful start to a new school year in Colorado, and I am happy to support you in your important and critical work supporting Colorado families and communities.

In partnership,

Meredith (Furtney) Fatseas, LCSW
Executive Director
